When Software Meets Art

This post is not smug.

Here’s a beautiful application of software to art, with function even. Wordle creates attractive word clouds from pasted text and web pages. You can customise your clouds’ parameters and appearance. And the Java applet is dealing with vectors so you can print your creation to PDF, and raster/print it as big as desired, or modify it for any design purpose.


I thought about using Wordle to analyse some notable documents for key concepts, speech transcripts came to mind. Word clouds should reduce a speech to the themes, and intuit the weight of each. And Wordle would do it with beautiful output. But this idea was too neat to be original.
